The first foundation excavation for the Dalad-Mengxi 1,000-kV AC transmission and transformation project by the Inner Mongolia Power Group was launched on May 31 in Ordos, marking the commencement of construction on the supporting project for the Dalad-Mengxi ultra-high voltage AC transmission and transformation initiative – the key national energy corridor project.
As a crucial part of the key national energy corridor project, it will feature a new dual-circuit line spanning 124.4 kilometers. The section managed by the Inner Mongolia Power Group will cover 2×44.7 km, utilizing a double circuit on the same tower configuration. The route will pass through three townships in Juungar Banner.
The Dalad-Mengxi ultra-high voltage AC transmission and transformation initiative is a significant part of China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for power development, with an investment of 4.37 billion yuan ($645.63 million). It is the first supporting part of the Mengxi-Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei ±800 kV UHV DC transmission and transformation initiative to be implemented in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
Once fully operational, the Dalad-Mengxi ultra-high voltage initiative will provide robust support for the safe and stable power transmission of the Mengxi-Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei ±800 kV UHV DC initiative. It will effectively address challenges related to power consumption in the Kubuqi Desert and the central-northern Ordos new energy base. Additionally, it will strengthen Inner Mongolia's role as a vital national energy and strategic resource base and empower the upgrading of the regional energy industry.
