Construction has resumed on the Zexin Licorice Deep-Processing and Beverage Production Project in Xini Town, Hanggin Banner. To date, exterior wall insulation for the factory building, along with the boiler house and guardhouse, have been completed, in addition to road paving and landscaping on the site. The project represents a total investment of 30 million yuan ($4.2 million) and covers an area of 11,801.62 square meters.
Hanggin Banner is recognized as the core production area for Ural licorice in China and holds the title of "China's Ecological Licorice Capital." Leveraging this unique resource advantage, Ordos Zexin Water Investment Group Co is developing a production line with an annual capacity of 2,000 tons of licorice extract and 60 million cans of licorice root beverage. Through deep-processing, the project aims to transform high-quality licorice into high-value products, addressing the long-standing challenge of prioritizing cultivation while neglecting processing capabilities.
Ural licorice is prized for both its medicinal properties and ecological value, serving as a key species in windbreak and sand fixation efforts, as well as saline-alkali land improvement along the Yellow River basin. Guided by the principle of ecological priority, the project seeks to promote efficient utilization of licorice resources while reinforcing achievements in ecological restoration. Once completed, it is expected to generate local employment and create new income streams for herders and farmers, positioning licorice as a driver of rural revitalization and a tangible example of the "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" philosophy.
