Updated: Apr 01, 2026

Juungar Banner's digital protection and utilization project for the Shi’erliancheng Site was selected as a successful case in the "technology-empowered cultural heritage protection" category at the Creativity 2030: 5th International Forum. The forum, co-organized by the International Centre for Creativity and Sustainable Development under the auspices of UNESCO and UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, was held at the Shougang Park of Beijing Future Digital Space Innovation Experimental Zone on March 27.

Typical cases promoting and protecting diverse forms of cultural expression in the digital age were collected and announced, covering three major fields: cultural industry development, cultural heritage protection, and the dissemination and innovation of intangible cultural heritage. The review committee consisted of 12 cross-disciplinary experts from both China and abroad, who selected 40 pilot cases based on criteria such as innovation, sustainability, and replicability.

The digital protection and utilization project for the Shi’erliancheng Site was initiated in 2025 by the Publicity Department of the CPC Juungar Banner Committee. The entire site, covering an area of one million square meters, was systematically and precisely archived digitally, setting a benchmark in the field. By integrating cutting-edge technologies, innovating operational models, and leveraging diverse values, the project has achieved significant improvements in both the protection and utilization of cultural heritage. A 3D model with centimeter-level accuracy and large-scale color rendition was established.

Throughout the process, a standardized and replicable workflow was developed. The project has also yielded a tangible outcome: a digital platform that integrates professional management with public services. The platform helps the public gain a deeper understanding of culture and history through experiences such as virtual tours, while also serving archaeological research, monitoring, and protection. This innovative model has opened up a new direction for cultural heritage protection—moving from static preservation to dynamic presentation.
