A new-generation weather radar system project is underway at the Hanggin Banner meteorological bureau.
The project has a total investment of 18.8 million yuan ($2.6 million) and features a structure designed to reach 43 meters high. The radar tower's main structure is expected to be completed by the end of November.
Once completed, the project will link up with radar stations in Dongsheng district and Otog Banner to form a triangular monitoring network, shifting from single-point coverage to full-area networking and comprehensively boosting the region's capacity for weather disaster warnings and defenses.
Once operational, the new radar system will deliver real-time, high-precision data on large-scale areal rainfall, wind fields and cloud water content. It will sharpen the monitoring and early warning of severe weather such as torrential rain, hail, and gales, while also strengthening Hanggin Banner's broader meteorological observation network and public weather services.
