Huineng Group has commenced construction on a solid waste utilization project at the Dalu Industrial Park in Juungar Banner, Ordos. The project, with a total investment of 67.5 billion yuan ($9.97 billion), aims to process 6 million metric tons of coal gangue and fly ash annually.

Once fully operational, the facility is expected to produce 2 million tons of aluminum-silicon and silicon-aluminum-titanium alloys each year. It will also feature an integrated wind, solar, and storage installation with a capacity of 8 million kilowatts.

The first phase of the project involves an investment of 36 billion yuan, producing 1 million tons of alloy and processing 2.6 million tons of solid waste annually. It is expected to generate 16 billion yuan in annual output, 2.2 billion yuan in tax revenue, and over 4,000 jobs.

Aligning with national and local policies to promote the utilization of coal-based solid waste in the banner, the project aims to establish China’s largest high-aluminum coal-based solid waste utilization base and a flagship source-grid-load-storage integration project. It is expected to serve as a model for combining waste treatment with renewable energy and storage systems.
