Construction of the Kubuqi Ordos 4-million-kilowatt new energy transmission project began on the morning of April 15, with the start of rotary drilling for the foundation pit of Tower N6 on the Juungar Banner Dalu–Boertao section of the power grid.

The project is a supporting facility of the Mengxi–Tianjin South Ultra-High Voltage (UHV) power grid. The transmission line runs from the 500 kV Dalu Substation to the 500 kV Boertao Substation, and ends at the 1,000 kV UHV Ordos Substation. It includes the construction of two new 500 kV substations (Boertao and Dalu), 279 kilometers of 500 kV transmission lines, and 340 new transmission towers. The total investment is 1.94 billion yuan ($270 million).

Once operational, the project will facilitate the aggregation and transmission of new energy from Ordos, delivering 14 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually to the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region to meet growing power demand. It will also reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 4.4 million tonnes per year. The project is expected to support ecological restoration in the Kubuqi Desert, improve the transmission efficiency of the Mengxi–Tianjin South UHV channel, and achieve a win-win outcome for both environmental and economic development.
