The "2025 China's Top 500 Energy Companies" ranking was unveiled at the 8th China Energy Industry Development Annual Conference on Dec 4, 2025. Compiled by China Energy News and the China Energy Economy Research Institute, the list evaluates enterprises based on their 2024 operating revenue.

Leading the representation from Inner Mongolia, 20 enterprises from Ordos City were named to the list—accounting for nearly 60% of the region's total entries. Notable Ordos-based companies include Inner Mongolia Huineng Coal-Electricity Group Co, which ranked 68th nationally, along with industry players such as Yitai Group, Mengtai Group, and Yidong Group.

Overall, the top 500 energy companies reported a combined revenue of 33.43 trillion yuan ($4.82 trillion), marking a slight year-on-year increase of 0.04%. However, 44.39% of the listed enterprises saw revenue decline, while 19.52% reported losses—more than double the proportion from the previous year.

Regionally, Jiangsu Province led with 55 enterprises on the list, followed by Shandong (48), Zhejiang (45), Guangdong (43), Shanxi (39), and Inner Mongolia (35). The strong showing by Ordos highlights the city's growing prominence in China's energy sector.
