Two sustainable development cases from Ordos – China's first "Zero-Carbon" airport and an innovative "Solar Power + Desertification Control" project – have been selected as 2025 Green and Low-Carbon Model Cases by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. This recognition marks a significant step in the city's pursuit of green and low-carbon development.

In 2024, Ordos Ejin Horoo International Airport launched its "Zero-Carbon Airport" technology demonstration project, focusing on green energy, technological innovation, and smart management. The project has achieved a 100 percent zero-carbon energy supply for the terminal building, reducing annual carbon emissions by 13,184 metric tons and saving over 72 percent in energy consumption compared to traditional models.

The pilot project at the Northern-Central Kubuqi New Energy Base integrates a 1,000-megawatt photovoltaic project with desertification control measures. Using a "solar power + ecological management" model, it generates electricity while promoting ecological restoration between and beneath solar panels. This approach also supports crop development, afforestation, and technological innovation, offering an integrated solution of "ecological restoration + clean energy + economic development" for other regions facing desertification.

Ordos now boasts more than 50 effective sustainable development cases across the energy transition, ecological management, and smart city sectors.

The city plans to promote the "Zero-Carbon Airport" and "Solar Power + Desertification Control" models nationally and globally, contributing its solutions to climate change mitigation and carbon neutrality goals.
