Inner Mongolia Energy Group held a groundbreaking ceremony for its 12 major energy projects in the winter of 2024, including two in Ordos: Phase I of the 1,100-megawatt wind and photovoltaic power generation project for sand control and afforestation in Hanggin Banner, and Phase I of the 500-MW photovoltaic power generation project for sand control and afforestation in Dalad Banner.

This marks another batch of important energy projects launched by Inner Mongolia Energy Group following the 6.7-gigawatt new projects in 2023 and over 20 GW of new projects in the first half of 2024.

The 12 major energy projects, including two coal-fired power projects and 10 new energy projects, involve a total investment of about 30 billion yuan ($4.11 billion) and a total installed capacity of 10.34 million kilowatts. They are distributed throughout nine cities and leagues in Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

Upon completion of the projects, the region's annual power generation will rise to nearly 30 billion kilowatt-hours, reducing standard coal consumption by more than 5 million metric tons and carbon dioxide emissions by more than 16 million tons. These projects are of great significance to the promotion of local economic and social development, energy structure transformation and upgrading, and achieving carbon neutrality.
