An integrated green hydrogen production project and a carbon-reducing upgrading project broke ground on Dec 18 in Uxin Banner, Ordos, with an approved budget of approximately 11 billion yuan ($1.49 billion).

The projects are composed of a green hydrogen/green oxygen coupling plant, a new liquefied natural gas plant with a daily capacity of 500,000 cubic meters under normal condition, an acetic acid plant with an annual capacity of 300,000 metric tons per year, a vinyl acetate plant with an annual capacity of 200,000 tons, and a green hydrogen plant with an annual capacity of 30,000 tons. The projects also include a 288 MWp photovoltaic power plant, a 450 MW wind power plant, a 60.36-kilometer-long 220 kilovolts power line, and their supporting public works and auxiliary production facilities.

The two projects are scheduled to be operational by 2026 and 2027, respectively. They are expected to extend, complement, and enhance the local coal chemical circular economy industrial chain.

It will help shift the role of Ordos' coal resources from fuel to material, promote the development of the city's coal-to-olefin industry, and enhance its downstream high-end products and fine chemical industries. This will upgrade the coal chemical industry from general processing to high-end manufacturing and optimize the local industrial structure.
