Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region planted 5.35 million mu (356,600 hectares) of grain crops this year, exceeding Inner Mongolia's assigned target by 9 percent. Over 90 percent of grain and oil crops have been harvested, and the total annual grain output is expected to exceed 2.25 billion kilograms, likely achieving a 21st consecutive bumper harvest.
Since the beginning of this year, Ordos has conscientiously implemented the requirements of both Party committees and governments that assume responsibility for ensuring food security. It has taken multiple measures to ensure the autumn harvest and firmly guarded the bottom line of food security.
In the face of heavy rains and severe waterlogging in farmland this autumn, the agricultural and animal husbandry bureau of Ordos has strengthened cooperation with meteorological, emergency, water conservancy, and other departments to ensure stable crop production and income growth.
Ordos constructed 456,000 mu of high-standard farmland this year and improved 50,000 mu of saline-alkali land. It demonstrated and promoted the technological models of "corn dense planting + Netafim small flow drip irrigation + precise regulation of water and fertilizer" and "corn dense planting and the water and fertilizer integration of Yellow River water direct filtration drip irrigation".
It has also explored high-quality and efficient crop production technologies, combining good farmland, seeds, and methods to promote large-scale yield increases.
Given the poor weather conditions and frequent disasters this year, Ordos has formulated and issued a series of supportive measures, including the "Action Plan for Ensuring a Bumper Harvest by Pest Control". The city allocated 30 million yuan ($4.15 million) in disaster relief funds for farmers and herders in the affected areas to resume production. As of Nov 6, the city's harvest area of grain and oil crops was 5.87 million mu, accounting for 98 percent of the total sown area.
