The 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biodiversity Conference (COP 16) was recently held in Cali, Colombia. The second "Biodiversity Charming City" list was officially released during the 8th Summit for Subnational Governments and Cities, held in parallel to COP 16 on Oct 26. Ordos was the only city in northwest China to be honored with the title.

The summit, co-hosted by the secretariat of the United Nations Biodiversity Conference, the ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, the Regional Organization for Sustainable Development (Regions4) and the City of Cali, Colombia, attracted more than 200 city, provincial and state delegations from over 100 countries around the world.

Alongside Ordos, Beijing, Ninghe district of Tianjin, Anji county in Zhejiang province, Shiyan in Hubei province, Beilun district of Ningbo in Zhejiang province, Shaoxing in Zhejiang province, Xiamen in Fujian province, and Lishui in Zhejiang province, were also honored.
