Ordos' R&D funding exceeds 5b yuan

According to the recently-released 2023 Research and Development (R&D) Funding Statistical Communique of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Ordos' R&D funding has reached 5.32 billion yuan ($748.52 million) this year, ranking second in the region, with an increase of 910 million yuan compared to the previous year. The city's R&D funding grew by 20.6 percent, marking the third straight year of double digit increases and higher than its GDP growth rate.

Ordos accounted for 48.9 percent to the region's R&D funding increase, more than any other city in the region. Its R&D funding accounts for 0.91 percent of its GDP, up 0.12 percent compared to the previous year.

In 2023, Ordos' government financed R&D funding reached 2.05 billion yuan, surging 67.9 percent compared to the previous year. It accounts for 1.8 percent of the city's general public budget revenue and 27.3 percent of the region's government financed R&D funding. The city leads all other cities in the region in terms of both volume and growth rate of R&D funding.

In recent years, Ordos has been promoting technological innovation with unprecedented attention, supporting policies and investment. The city has issued "30 New Policies for Science and Technology" and "30 New Policies for Talents" 2.0 Version and has expended much effort in carrying out Technology Breakthrough Projects. Additionally, by highlighting the position of enterprises as the main body of innovation and facilitating cooperation between scientists and entrepreneurs, Ordos has been striving to cultivate and develop new quality productive forces.

Efforts have also been made to implement plans to ensure that all industrial enterprises above designated scale have R&D funding, an R&D department or commercialized invention patents, and to double the number of high-tech enterprises and technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises.

So far, Ordos has allocated 239 million yuan in subsidies and rewards to 221 enterprises. By constantly incentivizing innovation entities to actively engage in R&D, the city has managed to rank among China's top 100 cities in terms of innovation capabilities.
