Transaction volume of Ordos New Energy Center exceeds 2b yuan

Milestones have been reached by Ordos New Energy Center in Ordos, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – as of May 5, the center has sold and handed over 6,682 new energy vehicles in total, with a transaction volume exceeding 2 billion yuan ($275.60 million) and over 300 jobs created.

In May 2022, work began on the center, which was converted from the old factory of former Huatai Automobile City and put into operation in December that year. It covers a total area of 75,000 square meters, with a building area of 45,000 sq m, and has an overall investment of nearly 400 million yuan.

The center offers services such as sales and delivery, car beauty services, detection and maintenance, exhibition, tax payment, registration transfer, and violation handling, while also including multiple supporting facilities, such as lounges, canteens and retail stores, catering to supervisors, manufacturers, consumers and service suppliers.

A total of 24 new energy vehicle brands, including BYD, Ideal, NIO, and Xiaopeng, have set up operations in the center so far, with some being company firsts in Inner Mongolia or Ordos.

The first phase of the center is now fully occupied, with 18 brands, including Huawei, Hongqi, BMW, and Mercedes Benz, having expressed interest in setting up operation. The second phase of the center will start construction in first half of 2024 and be put into operation that same year.

The center is expected to sell over 6,000 vehicles annually, with a transaction volume exceeding 1.8 billion yuan. Over the next five years, it is expected to create about 1,000 jobs, attract 90,000 visitors per year, and lead to consumption of nearly 18 million yuan for peripheral industries.
