Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region is participating in China Brand Day 2024, which is being held in Shanghai from May 10 to 14. Over the past few years, Ordos – a resources-rich city – has been striving to develop new brands in addition to polishing its traditional brands of cashmere, goat meat and coal.

In the new energy sector, Ordos is building an integrated industrial chain consisting of wind power, solar power, hydrogen, power storage and vehicles to advance the energy revolution. It is home to the highest number of approved new energy generation projects among prefecture-level cities nationwide. By the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), it plans to complete 50 million kilowatts of new energy installed capacity.

In Dalad Banner, a vast solar park has been built in the desert; in Juungar Banner, the Narisong Photovoltaic Hydrogen Production Demonstration Project successfully produced the first batch of green hydrogen; in Ejin Horoo Banner, hydrogen energy batteries have rolled off the production line. These achievements embody the city's development efforts.

What's more, Ordos has leveraged the strength of green electricity to develop green manufacturing industries such as the new energy equipment manufacturing and modern coal chemical industry, and introduced a batch of projects by globally leading photovoltaic enterprises. The world's largest demonstration base for green hydrogen coupled with coal-to-olefins will soon be completed.

In addition, the development of the new energy industry will help in protecting the city's ecosystems. Generations of residents have been tirelessly combating desertification and planting greenery for decades, pushing the green landscape 300 kilometers westward over the past 20 years ago and earning the city recognition as a national ecological civilization demonstration zone. Looking forward to 2030, the city will make efforts to boost the control rate of the Kubuqi Desert from 35 percent to 70 percent, and eradicate the Mu Us Desert.
