The Andinghao 220-kV substation project in the Jungar Economic Development Zone, Ordos city, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has been completed and connected to the grid from the start of the new year.

Representing the inaugural indoor intelligent substation in Jungar banner, this project is poised to comprehensively meet the electricity requirements and play a pivotal role in optimizing the business environment.

Xi Zhisen, project manager of the Andinghao 220-kV substation project of Xuejiawan Power Supply Branch of Inner Mongolia (Group) Co Ltd, said: "The Andinghao 220-kV power transmission and transformation project started construction on Jun 2, 2023, and was completed in 207 days, encompassing the 220-kV line. This project not only fulfills the electricity demand of key new energy projects, such as photovoltaics and hydrogen production, in the autonomous region, but also enhances the regional power grid structure, ensuring reliable dual power supply locally."

The project is comprised of the construction of an indoor intelligent substation covering 0.73 hectares and two line projects for 220 kV and 110 kV, with total investments of 233 million yuan ($32.5 million). The total line length spans 34.68 kilometers, featuring a substation capacity of 480,000 kVA.

The company has adhered to synchronous planning, construction and commissioning goals for new energy and supporting power grid projects, ensuring timely completion. This approach has effectively facilitated grid connection and met power demand for the Narisong photovoltaic hydrogen demonstration project and new industrial ventures in Jungar EDZ.

"Upon completion and operation of the project, the Narisong photovoltaic hydrogen demonstration project's green power will seamlessly integrate into the grid. This not only meets the power requirements of the hydrogen production plant, but also integrates surplus green power into the Inner Mongolia power grid, further enhancing new energy consumption levels," Xi said.

In recent years, with heightened investment promotion efforts, Jungar EDZ has witnessed a surge in new project settlements. The existing Yangsihai 220-kV substation is operating at full capacity, posing challenges in meeting the power needs of newly established enterprises. To effectively address this constraint and elevate the business environment, the successful initiation, construction and operation of the Andinghao 220-kV substation project hold substantial significance. This project is instrumental in refining the regional grid structure in the zone, catering to the power demands of more enterprises and advancing the development of new energy transformation and a modern power system.
