The Seven-Star Lakes Scenic Site is situated in the hinterland of the Kubuqi Desert, the seventh largest desert in China. The scenic site covers a total area of 8.89 square kilometers. From above, the seven lakes look like the seven stars constituting the Big Dipper, and this is where they got their name.
Constructed by the world-famous Elion Resources Group, whose chairman ––Wang Wenbiao –– won the Champions of the Earth award during the UN Environment Assembly; the Seven-Star Lakes Scenic Site displays the remarkable achievements of local people and how the lakes can perfectly match the desert.
The scenic area was confirmed as the permanent site of the "Kubuqi International Desert Forum" by the UN in 2011. In 2008, the Seven-Star Lakes Scenic Site was designated a national 4A-grade scenic spot.
