Zhongtian Hechuang Energy Co has completed the mechanical construction of its 1,500-metric ton-per-year syngas-to-olefins pilot plant in Ordos. This project, developed from research conducted by Tsinghua University and industrialized by the Ordos Laboratory, represents a significant advancement in coal chemical technology and its industrial application.

With a total investment of 50 million yuan ($7.47 million), the pilot plant addresses the inefficiencies of China's traditional coal-to-olefins production, which typically involves extended process chains, high energy consumption, and significant carbon emissions. The innovative one-step syngas-to-olefins process effectively overcomes these challenges, providing a new technical pathway for modernizing the coal chemical industry and reducing its carbon footprint.

"The one-step syngas-to-olefins process is at the forefront of coal chemical engineering," said Qian Weizhong, a professor at Tsinghua University and executive deputy director of the Ordos Laboratory. "Compared to existing technologies, this process is much more streamlined and requires less investment. With its highly integrated catalysts, it holds immense potential for reducing wastewater, carbon dioxide emissions, and steam consumption."

Zhongtian Hechuang is now moving forward with plant commissioning, hot-state calibration, and process optimization to develop a mature, scalable industrial process system. The company aims to explore new avenues for clean and efficient coal utilization.
