A 600-megawatt Buertaohai wind power section of the larger 4-gigawatt Kubuqi Desert renewable energy base in Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has connected to a 500-kilovolt collection substation – the first among six participating developers to reach this milestone.

The connection marks a critical step toward delivering green power to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

The 600-MW Buertaohai wind power project, developed by GD Power Development Co, comprises 96 turbines, each rated at 6.25 MW. It also includes a 60-MW/120-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system to smooth output fluctuations and enhance grid stability.

Once fully operational, the entire 4-GW Kubuqi base will deliver substantial clean electricity annually to northern China's load centers, reducing coal consumption and carbon emissions while utilizing barren desert land for renewable generation.

As a key project under China's second batch of large-scale desert-focused wind and solar bases, the Ordos 4-GW initiative makes productive use of the Kubuqi Desert's idle land for renewable energy production.
