The Ordos Zero-Carbon Industrial Park, located in the Mengsu Economic Development Zone, is powering upstream and downstream enterprises – spanning solar thermal, photovoltaics, energy storage, and hydrogen – with clean electricity. This comes as the park advances its goal of full-process decarbonization through the direct supply of green power and comprehensive resource recovery.
The park has completed a 408.2-megawatt wind-solar-storage integrated project, generating 900 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity a year, 80 million kWh of which are already being supplied to park enterprises. Direct supply volumes are expected to increase further.
At the heart of the park's manufacturing ecosystem, Envision Energy's battery factory has reduced unit product energy consumption through routine energy-saving management and facility upgrades. The company retrofitted waste heat recovery systems for high-temperature drying processes, boosting recovery efficiency from 70 percent to over 85 percent.
Additionally, improvements to cooling, compressed air, boiler systems, and terminal air conditioning saved nearly 10 million kWh of electricity a year.
Nearby, Inner Mongolia Baichuan Solar Thermal Technology Co has reduced its electricity consumption by 5 percent and thermal energy usage by 12 percent through the adoption of energy-efficient motors, high-performance pump sets, and dynamic power regulation tailored to real-time process demands.
The park's resource recycling efforts are equally robust. A centralized water reclamation facility, designed to treat 100,000 metric tons of wastewater daily, can process 55,000 tons per day at peak periods.
All of the pre-treated industrial wastewater from park enterprises is channeled to the plant, where it undergoes biological and membrane treatment, producing reclaimed water with a reuse rate exceeding 96 percent – all of which is returned to enterprises, reducing their operational costs, said Niu Yanpeng, head of Pengyuan Water Supply Co under Shengyuan Water Group.
